Judy Burbage...Having an experienced loft manager, like Judith Burbage, is Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing’s greatest asset. With over 27 years of sail making experience, Judy brings sail repair, evaluations, construction and customer service to a whole new level.  Her love of craft, pride and finish can be seen in every project she works on.

Judy started her career with Seidelmann Sails, a very successful one-design and big boat sailmaker. Bob Seidelmann trained and employed seamstresses for his sail loft.

A graduate from Eastern High School, Judy was a hardworking and detail oriented person.  She was quick to grasp the sail construction concepts and became very experienced at the sewing machine.  Because of her great people skills and knowledge about the industry, Judy caught the eye of another local sail maker, Skip Moorhouse .  After five years at Seidelmann Sails, Judy began to work for Moorhouse Sailmakers as the loft manager.  Skip and Judy oversaw the construction and finishing of every sail. For more than 20 years, she was also in charge of sail repairing and modification.   In 2011, Judy joined our team at Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing.  Judy brings almost three decades of skill and experience on board at Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing. As the loft manager, Judy is more than capable of offering a wide range of high quality, expert sail repair and services.

Perhaps Judy’s greatest strength lies in her ability to evaluate and assess the integrity of every sail. As part of her sail maintenance program, Judy inspects each sail individually, carefully lays it out, measures and examines it completely for broken stitches, tears, batten pocket tears, chaffing, broken or missing slides  and deterioration. Following her professional inspection, Judy personally makes all the necessary repairs in a timely manner.  Her ability to take a worn out sail- repair it, revitalize it and restore it to peak performance. Restoration is the most rewarding part of her career.

Judy is committed to quality, excellence and extending the life of your sails. She recommends professional sail washing here at Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing. Judy knows that sail washing, removing stains, mildew and any residue prevents the threads and sail material from breaking down.  After the sail is washed, Judy oversees that new tell tales are installed. All sails are meticulously folded, stored and protected throughout the winter on site in the Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing loft. Judy highly recommends bringing your sails in right after the season is over so that she can give them the full attention that they deserve.

In addition to sail repair, Judy has years of experience with Roller Furling Sails. When considering conversion from standard luff to roller furling or removing old UV covers and installing new UV covers, she can offer you full personalized service. Judy likes to stay busy and has worked with Acrylic/Sunbrella items throughout her career. She constructs new sail covers to fit your boat, boat covers, dodgers and biminis. These projects include stitching, windows and zippers.  Numbers and insignias can be replaced or removed at any time. Please feel free to call Judy for a quote.

High quality expert sail repair is just as important to Judy as customer service. If giving your older sail a renewed shape and you want to extend the life of your sail, then Judy has the experience to do a full batten modification. She is always keeping her eye on the condition of your sails and making repairs promptly and economically. Judy says that the key to making your sails last as long as possible without replacement is maintenance. She is always available to speak with you regarding your sails and to answer any questions you might have. Getting the wind back in your sails is not just her motto, it is her passion.

Judy is a professional and fun loving person, dedicated wife, mom and grandmother. When not in the loft sewing away at her machine, she enjoys the outdoors with her husband of 30 years. She enjoys camping and being a great mom to all their adopted kids. Judy’s manner, commitment to quality and traditional values are truly unmatched and a tremendous asset to Moorhouse MacCausland Sailing. We are so fortunate to have her part of our team..
